Week of Sept. 4-8

Dear Prek Parents,

Reminders:
- Every Tuesday Homework is send home. Homework should be back to school on Thursday. Please don’t forget to send the folder back

- Please make sure your child is only bringing toys of the letter of the week or the theme we are studying. We have been receiving daily, children with toys that do not belong to the letter or theme.

This week we are going to continue working with the alphabet. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound, we will also focus on the letter formation, vocabulary of the letter, remember always emphasizing on the short vowel sounds. We will begin studying about the letter Dd. The vocabulary for this letter is: dog, doughnut, dolphin, dinosaur, door, doll, duck, drum, dress, dice, donkey.

Two children will be assigned each week with each letter. In this case, the children assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Monday and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have Emma (Prek”A”) and Diego Sebastian. (Prek”B”).

***Note: On Friday, the assigned students, will have to share for 22 friends eatable things such as donuts, dumplings, doritos chips, dinosaur cookies (or any cookie or eatable thing with the shape of a letter D word), etc. for children to taste. We do this to close our letter unit.

The following link you will find a PowerPoint presentation with the vocabulary, in case you would like to review at home with your child.

We are attaching links of some of Letter Dd videos if you would like to listen and sing at home with your kid:

Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:
Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs, by Mo Willems
This is another fun book from the creator of the Pigeon series and the Elephant and Piggy books.  Not only do kids love this one, but you’ll appreciate all the little jokes thrown in.  When the dinosaurs set a trap of three giant bowls of chocolate pudding, “a poorly supervised little girl named Goldilocks came along.”   Goldilocks is clueless that she has just fallen into a trap until she hears the dinosaurs talking about their catch.  “Goldilocks took a minute to stop and think, which was longer than she was used to stopping and thinking.”

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? by Jane Yolen & Mark Teague is a fun rhyming story about dinosaurs and their silly bedtime routines. It is a great one to read at bedtime, too! While Jane Yolen has several dinosaur books in this collection, this the only one we have read {shame on me}. I guess I have my work cut out for me at the library this week!

In math, will be working with numbers. We will work on how to represent and recognize numbers using tally marks, ten frames, name of the number, one-to-one correspondence. We will continue working this week with numbers 0-5.

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “Five Little Ducks”
We are attaching you the link of the videos of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

In our Science unit, we will continue learning about PARTS OF THE BODY. We will begin with this unit this week. Some of the vocabulary words we will be learning this week are: head, mouth, eyes, ears, nose, toes, fingers, arm, elbow, and hands. If you have any poster or any other material that you are willing to share with the class, we would appreciate if you will let us borrow them from you.

Supply list: If you still haven't brought all the materials yet, I'll be very much thankful if could send them this week. We will be sending a note detailing the materials you’re missing. Thank you to the ones that send their materials already.
Thanks a lot for your help!

HONDURAS: September, our Independence month, is coming full of exciting and great events. On Sept. 13th, Nursery and Prek are assigned to make a stand describing ATLANTIDA. We would like to focus on Garifunas, La Ceiba and Tela beaches. We need your support in this, we need garífuna music instruments, dressing, it is also helpful anything you have of Marine theme, such as fishing nets, beach shells, an anchor or any other thing that describes the beach, boats or Garifuna. We will be sending these things back to you on Monday, Sept. 18th. Please label the things that we will borrow from you with your kid’s name or your family last name as you wish. Here are some ideas of how we would like to decorate our stand.
