Feb 25-March 1




This week we will continue learning about our abc. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound, letter formation, vocabulary of the letter, remember always emphasizing on the short vowel sounds. This week we will be studying about the letter Ss. The vocabulary words for this letter are: scissors, snail, six, spider, snack, socks, sun, submarine, seahorse, sandals, sandwich, seal

Child assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Monday  and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have McKenley Crose

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will work with numbers 0-12 on how to represent and identify using tally marks, ten frames, number formation, and name of the number, one-to-one correspondence, and sequencing.

Dr. Seuss has a collection of more than 50 books and we would really like the children to be exposed to the majority of them. This week, Feb. 25th to March 1st , we will be doing an author study about him and we will celebrate his 104rd birthday. In order to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday, we will be doing many different activities throughout the following week. Here is the dress-up calendar for this week:

Monday, Feb. 25 – “If I Ran the Zoo "
Wear animal print 

Tuesday, Feb. 26 – “Fox in Socks”

Wacky Socks day (wear crazy socks)
Wednesday, Feb 27 – “Wacky Wednesday”
Wacky Wednesday (Wear mismatched clothes, clothes backwards, inside-out, etc.)

Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:


Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Snow White's stepmother, the queen, is jealous of the girl's beauty and sends her way to the forest, where she is found by the seven dwarfs. Finally, the wicked queen puts the girl into an everlasting sleep. But Snow White is awakened by a kiss from a handsome prince and lives happily ever after.

Feb-19-22


MIDTERM REPORTS – Midterm reports were issued last Friday, Feb. 15thThese should be signed by parents and returned to the teacher as soon as possible. If you would like a conference and one was not requested by the teacher, please call the school to set up an appointment.

There will be no school on Monday February 18 th. Classes resume on Tuesday February 19 th. 



Reminders:
- Every Tuesday Homework is send home. Homework should be back to school on Thursday. Please don’t forget to send the folder back


-Please make sure your child is only bringing toys of the letter of the week we are studying. We have been receiving children with toys that do not belong to the letter.

***Note: On Friday, the assigned students, will have to share eatable things for 18 friends such as rosquillas, raisins, raspberry, rice, ravioli, reese’s, ruffles, ritz cookies, etc. for children to taste. We do this to close our letter unit.

In Social Studies we will continue the unit about Farm Animals. We are going to learning and discussing Farm life and animals that live in the farm. The different between farm animals and no Farm Animals. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: cow, horse, pig, duck, sheep, rooster, dog, cat, goat, rabbit, donkey, turkey. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

We have talked to the students that we have started the hot season in Honduras. PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR CHILD WITH A WATER BOTTLE EVERY DAY. Have them wear light clothes; put sunscreen on their face and arms.

Feb 11-15

Dear Prek Parents,

-Please make sure your child is ONLY bringing toys of topics required by the teacher. We have been receiving children with toys that do not belong to any of the studies we are having.

Note: If you would like to share eatable things such as quinoa, quesadilla, quiche, etc. for children to taste. It would be awesome if instead of Monday you send it on Friday so that we close up our letter unit.

That lovely old lady has returned just in time for Valentine's Day. Now she's swallowing items to make a very special gift for her valentine!

In Social Studies we will introduce  the unit about Feelings and Emotions. We are going to be discussing the different types of feelings. Children will get the chance to name them and know how to be a good friend and learn the words to express their feelings. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: happy, sad, worried, sleepy, surprised, confused, hot, embarrassed, nervous, cold, excited, thirsty, hungry.

As Valentine´s Day is around the corner, we are requesting you to help your child decorate a shoe box to be used as their mailbox. Be creative, and let your child brainstorm the ideas that he/she would like their box to look like. We are going to display all these lovely mailboxes on Thursday , Feb. 14th for your child to deliver their valentine cards for their friends. This is a voluntary activity. However, if you decide to participate, the only request that we have is that the students should bring one card or treat to each one of the Prek students. This mailbox should be in school by Wednesday , Feb. 13th .

This coming Thursday  Feb. 14th, we will be having our Valentine’s Day Celebration during our working stations. One of the stations will be the VALENTINES BANANA SPLIT STATION.


 We will need your help with  some  ingredients , some students are responsible to bring in assigned food items . If you were not assigned for this celebration we will request your help in future celebrations . 











As you all know  our little ones love helping out. Here at Discovery School we pride ourselves in doing just that.  Early Childhood is pleased to announce our Community Service Project. CEPUDO is a wonderful organization that helps out different areas in our community. One of those areas is lending a helping hand to newborn babies  and moms born in Hospital Materno Infantil. This project ( which is TOP SECRET for the students at the moment ) has several steps.  
We need your help in order to make this a successful learning experience for our students. The first step is where you the parents come in, please send in 100 Lempiras per child by next Friday February 15th.
This money will be used to purchase a tote bag/ diaper bag with the Discovery School logo on it.
More information about our project will follow in the weeks to come.

Child assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Monday and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have Pedro Cubas 

Note: If you would like to share eatable things such as pear, papaya, pizza, pineapple, pasta, peach, peanuts, pie, pistachos, pomegranate, potatoes, pancakes, pepperoni, pudding, pandita gummies, poptarts etc. for children to taste. It would be awesome if instead of Monday you send it on Friday so that we close up our letter unit.

This coming  Friday , Feb. 8 we will be going on a  field trip to AGAFAM!  We have been invited to assist.! This Field Trip has a cost of L. 100    We will assist from 8.00 am to 11:00am. Please send the money and the permission slip signed by Feb 6 , 2019 .
    No lunchboxes for snack  just take a water bottle ; wear school shirt.
