Week of Feb. 27 - Mar. 3

Dear Prek Parents,

This week we will be reviewing all the concepts of the abc’s we’ve learned until now. We will review letters A-R. This will include the naming of the letters, their sound and their writing. We will review the vocabulary of the letters of this 3rd quarter which are M-R.

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will work with numbers 0-12 on how to represent and identify using tally marks, ten frames, number formation, and name of the number, one-to-one correspondence, and sequencing.

Dr. Seuss has a collection of more than 50 books and we would really like the children to be exposed to the majority of them. This week, Feb. 27th to March 3rd, we will be doing an author study about him and we will celebrate his 103rd birthday. In order to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday, we will be doing many different activities throughout the following week. Here is the dress-up calendar for this week:

Tuesday, Feb. 28th – “Fox in Socks”
Wacky Socks day (wear crazy socks)
Wednesday, March 1st “Wacky Wednesday”
Wacky Wednesday (Wear mismatched clothes, clothes backwards, inside-out, etc.)
Thursday, March 2nd “Happy Birthday to you!”
Dr Seuss colors (white, black, red) or Thing 1 and Thing 2 clothes (red, blue and white)
Friday, March 3rd “If I Ran the Zoo”
Wear Animal Print

We invite to you visit the following links with your child. These sites include books, games, activities, and more about Dr. Seuss that you can do with your child at home.

We have talked to the students that we have started the hot season in Honduras. Please provide your child with a water bottle every day. Have them wear light clothes; they can bring a hat to protect from the sun, put sunscreen on their face and arms.




In Honduras we celebrate Father's Day on March 19th. We would like to invite all of our DADDIES to save the date for Thursday, March 16th at 8:00 a.m. We are planning on having something nice prepared for you. We hope you can come and spend some time with your child at school. Mommies we will need a little help from you and we will announce during the week. Thank you!

Week of Feb. 20-24

Dear Prek Parents,

Reminders:
- Every Tuesday Homework is send home. Homework should be back to school on Thursday. Please don’t forget to send the folder and notebook back
-Please make sure your child is ONLY bringing toys of topics required by the teacher. We have been receiving children with toys that do not belong to any of the studies we are having.

-This coming Friday, Feb. 24th is a Half-Day.. All school will be dismissed at 11:45am 

This week we will continue learning about our abc. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound, letter formation, vocabulary of the letter, remember always emphasizing on the short vowel sounds. This week we will be studying about the letter Rr. The vocabulary for this letter is: rabbit, robot, rocket, raccoon, rainbow, run, rhino, rug, ring, red, rose, rake

Children assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Tuesday and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have Lianna (Prek”A”) and Diego R. (Prek”B”).

Note: If you would like to share eatable things such as rosquillas, raisins, raspberry, rice, ravioli, reese’s, ruffles, ritz, etc. for children to taste. It would be awesome if instead of Tuesday you send it on Friday so that we close up our letter unit.

Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:
The Little Red Hen, The little red hen finds none of her lazy friends willing to help her plant, harvest, or grind wheat into flour, but all are eager to eat the bread she makes from it

We will also be working with Graphing. Children will be able to represent an amount of objects on a graph.





Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “Row, Row your Boat”
We are attaching you the link of the videos of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.



In Social Studies we will continue the unit about Feelings and Emotions. We are going to be discussing the different types of feelings. Children will get the chance to name them and know how to be a good friend and learn the words to express their feelings. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: happy, sad, worried, sleepy, surprised, confused, hot, embarrassed, nervous, cold, excited, thirsty, hungry. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

Week of Feb. 13-17

This week we will be studying about the letter Qq. The vocabulary for this letter is: question mark, queen, quail, quarter, q-tips, quiet, quack, quick, quilt

Children assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Monday and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have Jens (Prek”A”) and Emiliano (Prek”B”).

Note: If you would like to share eatable things such as quinoa, quesadilla, quiche, etc. for children to taste. It would be awesome if instead of Monday you send it on Friday so that we close up our letter unit.

Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:
There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose, by Lucille Colandro Our favorite lady is back and hungry for Valentine's Day treats!
That lovely old lady has returned just in time for Valentine's Day. Now she's swallowing items to make a very special gift for her valentine!
With rhyming text and hilarious illustrations, this wacky version of the classic song will appeal to young readers as they follow the Old Lady on a wild Valentine's Day adventure

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will also be working with Sorting. Children will be able to sort objects to the corresponding categories.

As Valentine´s Day is around the corner, we are requesting you to help your child decorate a shoe box to be used as their mailbox. Be creative, and let your child brainstorm the ideas that he/she would like their box to look like. We are going to display all these lovely mailboxes on Tuesday, Feb. 14th for your child to deliver their valentine cards for their friends. This is a voluntary activity. However, if you decide to participate, the only request that we have is that the students should bring one card or treat to each one of the Prek students. This mailbox should be in school by Monday, Feb. 13th .
We have a total of 22 students for now! Here is the list:

This coming Tuesday Feb. 14th, we will be having our Valentine’s Day Celebration during our working stations. One of the stations will be the VALENTINES PANCAKE STATION. We will need your help with Lps. 50.00, this will include ingredients for pancake mix, fruits, honey, chocolate, sprinkles and juice.

Week of Feb. 6-10

Dear Prek Parents,
Reminders:
- Every Tuesday Homework is send home. Homework should be back to school on Thursday. Please don’t forget to send the folder and notebook back
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays children have Motricity class. We are requesting that please send your child with tennis shoes and with shorts or pants. No skirts and no sandals. This is so that your child can be able to participate in every activity done during the class.
-Please make sure your child is only bringing toys of the letter of the week we are studying. We have been receiving children with toys that do not belong to the letter.

This week we will continue learning about our abc. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound, letter formation, vocabulary of the letter, remember always emphasizing on the short vowel sounds. This week we will be studying about the letter Pp. The vocabulary for this letter is: pencil, penguin, pizza, peacock, popcorn, pants, pumpkin, pineapple, pig, pancake, pirate, purple.

Children assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Monday and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have Gina (Prek”A”) and Cormac (Prek”B”).

Note: If you would like to share eatable things such as pear, papaya, pizza, pineapple, pasta, peach, peanuts, pie, pistachos, pomegranate, potatoes, pancakes, pepperoni, pudding, pandita gummies, poptarts etc. for children to taste. It would be awesome if instead of Monday you send it on Friday so that we close up our letter unit.
