Week of Feb. 26 - Mar. 2


Dear Prek Parents,
Dr. Seuss has a collection of more than 50 books and we would really like the children to be exposed to most them. This week, we will be doing an author study about him and we will celebrate his 104th birthday. To honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday, we will be doing many different activities throughout the following week. Here is the dress-up calendar for this week:

Monday, Feb. 26th“The Cat in the Hat”
Hat and Tie day

Tuesday, Feb. 27th“Fox in Socks”
Wacky Socks day (wear crazy socks)

Wednesday, Feb. 28th“Wacky Wednesday”
Wacky Wednesday (Wear mismatched clothes, clothes backwards, inside-out, etc.

Thursday, March 1st – “If I Ran the Zoo”
Wear Animal Print

Friday, March 2nd – “Happy Birthday to you!”
Dr Seuss colors (white, black, red) or Thing 1 and Thing 2 clothes (red, blue and white)

Reminders:
- Every Tuesday Homework is send home. Homework should be back to school on Thursday. Please don’t forget to send the folder back
-On Tuesday we send a Ziploc Bag home in the folder, so that you can send things that begin with the letter of the week.
-Please make sure your child is only bringing toys of the letter of the week we are studying. We have been receiving children with toys that do not belong to the letter.

This week we will continue learning about our abc. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound, letter formation, vocabulary of the letter, remember always emphasizing on the short vowel sounds. This week we will be studying about the letter Ss. The vocabulary words for this letter are: scissors, snail, six, spider, snacke, socks, sun, submarine, seahorse, sandals, sandwich, seal

Children assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Monday and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have Mateo (Prek”A”) and Sophia D.(Prek”B”).

Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Snow White's stepmother, the queen, is jealous of the girl's beauty and sends her way to the forest, where she is found by the seven dwarfs. Finally, the wicked queen puts the girl into an everlasting sleep. But Snow White is awakened by a kiss from a handsome prince and lives happily ever after.

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will work with numbers 0-12 on how to represent and identify using tally marks, ten frames, number formation, and name of the number, one-to-one correspondence, and sequencing. We will also be working with Graphing. Children will be able to represent a number of objects on a graph.

We would like your support on occasionally review counting and numbers. Here are some songs we use in class every day:

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “Oh Mr. Sun”
We are attaching you the link of the videos of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

We have talked to the students that we have started the hot season in Honduras. PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR CHILD WITH A WATER BOTTLE EVERY DAY. Have them wear light clothes; they can bring a hat to protect from the sun, put sunscreen on their face and arms.

Week of Feb. 19 - 23


Dear Prek Parents,
This coming Thursday, Feb. 22nd we will be having our first PREK field trip to AGAFAM! stuents from Universidad Agricola Panamericana Zamorano is bringing a Baby Farm for kids. We have been invited to assist.! We will be sending the permission slip on Tuesday, Feb. 20th. This Field Trip has a cost of L. 70.00 which include: transportation to and from AGAFAM, the entrance to the park, and a small snack (juice and cookie). The trip lasts around one hour and a half. We will assist from 9:30am to 11:00am. Please send the money and the permission slip signed by Wednesday, Feb. 21st.

We are requesting to PLEASE dress your kid as Farmer for this trip!! THANK YOU!

MIDTERM REPORTS – Midterm reports were issued last Friday, Feb. 16th. These should be signed by parents and returned to the teacher as soon as possible. If you would like a conference and one was not requested by the teacher, please call the school to set up an appointment.

***Note: On Friday, the assigned students, will have to share eatable things for 22 friends such as rosquillas, raisins, raspberry, rice, ravioli, reese’s, ruffles, ritz cookies, etc. for children to taste. We do this to close our letter unit.

In Social Studies we will continue the unit about Farm Animals. We are going to learning and discussing Farm life and animals that live in the farm. The different between farm animals and no Farm Animals. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: cow, horse, pig, duck, sheep, rooster, dog, cat, goat, rabbit, donkey, turkey. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose, by Lucille Colandro Our favorite lady is back and hungry for Valentine's Day treats! That lovely old lady has returned just in time for Valentine's Day. Now she's swallowing items to make a very special gift for her valentine! With rhyming text and hilarious illustrations, this wacky version of the classic song will appeal to young readers as they follow the Old Lady on a wild Valentine's Day adventure.

In Social Studies we will continue the unit about Feelings and Emotions. We are going to be discussing the different types of feelings. Children will get the chance to name them and know how to be a good friend and learn the words to express their feelings. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: happy, sad, worried, sleepy, surprised, confused, hot, embarrassed, nervous, cold, excited, thirsty, hungry. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

As Valentine´s Day is around the corner, we are requesting you to help your child decorate a shoe box to be used as their mailbox. Be creative, and let your child brainstorm the ideas that he/she would like their box to look like. We are going to display all these lovely mailboxes on Wednesday, Feb. 14th for your child to deliver their valentine cards for their friends. This is a voluntary activity. However, if you decide to participate, the only request that we have is that the students should bring one card or treat to each one of the PreK students. This mailbox should be in school by Tuesday, Feb. 13th .
