Dear Prek Parents,
Reminders:
- Every Tuesday Homework is send home. Homework should be back to school on Thursday. Please don’t forget to send the folder and notebook back

-Please make sure your child is ONLY bringing toys of topics required by the teacher. We have been receiving children with toys that do not belong to any of the studies we are having.

This week we will continue learning about our abc. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound, letter formation, vocabulary of the letter, remember always emphasizing on the short vowel sounds. This week we will be studying about the letter Qq. The vocabulary for this letter is: question mark, queen, quail, quarter, q-tips, quiet, quack, quick, quilt

Child assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Monday and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have Silvia-Puig Peinado

Note: If you would like to share eatable things such as quinoa, quesadilla, quiche, etc. for children to taste. It would be awesome if instead of Monday you send it on Friday so that we close up our letter unit.
Thank you for your support!!

The following link you will find a PowerPoint presentation with the vocabulary, in case you would like to review at home with your child.

Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:

There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose, by Lucille Colandro Our favorite lady is back and hungry for Valentine's Day treats!

That lovely old lady has returned just in time for Valentine's Day. Now she's swallowing items to make a very special gift for her valentine!
With rhyming text and hilarious illustrations, this wacky version of the classic song will appeal to young readers as they follow the Old Lady on a wild Valentine's Day adventure

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will work with numbers 0-12 on how to represent and idenify using tally marks, ten frames, number formation, and name of the number, one-to-one correspondence, and sequencing. We will also be working with Graphing.

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “Skidamarink”
We are attaching you the link of the videos of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

In Social Studies we will introduce  the unit about Feelings and Emotions. We are going to be discussing the different types of feelings. Children will get the chance to name them and know how to be a good friend and learn the words to express their feelings. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: happy, sad, worried, sleepy, surprised, confused, hot, embarrassed, nervous, cold, excited, thirsty, hungry.
The following link you will find a PowerPoint presentation with the vocabulary, in case you would like to review at home with your child.

As Valentine´s Day is around the corner, we are requesting you to help your child decorate a shoe box to be used as their mailbox. Be creative, and let your child brainstorm the ideas that he/she would like their box to look like. We are going to display all these lovely mailboxes on Thursday , Feb. 14th for your child to deliver their valentine cards for their friends. This is a voluntary activity. However, if you decide to participate, the only request that we have is that the students should bring one card or treat to each one of the Prek students. This mailbox should be in school by Wednesday , Feb. 13th .

As you all know  our little ones love helping out. Here at Discovery School we pride ourselves in doing just that.  Early Childhood is pleased to announce our Community Service Project. CEPUDO is a wonderful organization that helps out different areas in our community. One of those areas is lending a helping hand to newborn babies  and moms born in Hospital Materno Infantil. This project ( which is TOP SECRET for the students at the moment ) has several steps.
We need your help in order to make this a successful learning experience for our students. The first step is where you the parents come in, please send in 100 Lempiras per child by next Friday February 15th.
This money will be used to purchase a tote bag/ diaper bag with the Discovery School logo on it.
More information about our project will follow in the weeks to come.
