Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.,The 26 characters in this rhythmic, rhyming baby book are a lowercase alphabet with attitude. "A told b, and b told c, 'I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree'"--which probably seemed like a good idea until the other 23 members of the gang decided to follow suit. The palm tree standing straight and tall on the first page begins to groan and bend under its alphabetical burden. First the coconuts fall off, then ("Chicka chicka... BOOM! BOOM!") all the letters also end up in a big heap underneath.

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will continue working with numbers 0-15 on how to represent and identify using tally marks, ten frames, number formation, and name of the number, one-to-one correspondence, and sequencing.

Beginning readers use a lot of different ways to become more fluent readers. One of the most important ways to do that is to be able to read and recognize sight words.
Sight words refer to the words that are most frequently used and repeated in books, which is why sight words are also sometimes referred to as “high-frequency” words. The same words are also sometimes called “popcorn words.” The phrase popcorn words refer to the fact that students should be able to just pop those words out every time they see them.
We will be working with 2 sight words per week. This week will be: and / the

Phonemic Awareness: is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds-phonemes- in spoken words. Before children learn to read print, they need to become more aware of how the sounds in words work. They must understand that words are made up of speech sounds, or phonemes (the smallest parts of sound in a spoken word that make a difference in a word’s meaning).

Daily we are working on clapping syllables, differentiating a letter a word a sentence and a number. We are also working on beginning to write and read CVC WORDS (consonant, vowel consonant) such as: cat, bat, rat, pan, map, mop, can, etc.

In Science we will begin learning the unit about Pets. We are going to learning and discussing about the different animals that you could have as a pet Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: dog, cat, turtle, fish, hamster, parrot, rabbit. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

The following link you will find a PowerPoint presentation with the vocabulary, in case you would like to review at home with your child.

During the study of Pets we will be working on Living and Non Living Things. Children will be able to differentiate  traits about living things!
