Week of May 28-June 1

Dear Prek Parents,
Our last post for this school year. This is going to be a bittersweet week. It is time to say goodbye to our lovely students but at the same time we know that they are ready to move on in their lives. They are all excited to go to Kindergarten… Hooray!!! We will devote this week to have fun.

We will continue learning about Space. We are going to learning and discussing about the difference between day and night, sort activities that you do during the day, night and both. We will study why and how come the Sun it’s not on it’s same place during the day. The transition from day to night. We will discuss why the moon changes its shape during the month. When we study the sun, we will be emphasizing on shelter and shadow, why is it important. Finally, we will be discovering about planets and see our solar system through pictures and videos.

The “End of the Year Party” will be on Thursday, May 31st. We will go to Villas del Molinon playing area. This is just a 2 min trip from school, right next door. The school bus will be traveling us to and from school. We will be leaving school at 8:15 and come back at 11:15. We would like your help on sending your kid with his/her favorite toy to play and share on this day.

We would like to thank you for being such supportive parents. It has definitely been one of the best group of parents and kids that we have ever worked with. Please never stop being so supportive with your kids’ school and teachers. Without your support, it would have been impossible to make many activities that we planned. We really are aware of all your help and thank you again for that.

Beginning readers use a lot of different ways to become more fluent readers. One of the most important ways to do that is to be able to read and recognize sight words.
Sight words refer to the words that are most frequently used and repeated in books, which is why sight words are also sometimes referred to as “high-frequency” words. The same words are also sometimes called “popcorn words.” The phrase popcorn words refer to the fact that students should be able to just pop those words out every time they see them.
We will be working with 2 sight words per week. This week will be: he/she

We would like your support on occasionally review counting and numbers. NEW SONGS 0-20. Here are some songs we use in class every day:

Phonemic Awareness: is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds-phonemes- in spoken words. Before children learn to read print, they need to become more aware of how the sounds in words work. They must understand that words are made up of speech sounds, or phonemes (the smallest parts of sound in a spoken word that make a difference in a word’s meaning).
Daily we are working on clapping syllables, differentiating a letter a word a sentence and a number. We are also working on beginning to write and read CVC WORDS (consonant, vowel consonant) such as: cat, bat, rat, pan, map, mop, can, bed, etc.

Children assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Monday and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have Edgar (Prek”A”) and Diego S. (Prek”B”).

***Note: On Friday, the assigned students, will have to share eatable things for 23 friends such as letter z cookies, or anyother cookie or cake with letter z vocabulary, etc. for children to taste. We do this to close our letter unit.

We would like your support on occasionally review the ABC’s letter names and sound. Here are some songs we use in class every day.

Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.,The 26 characters in this rhythmic, rhyming baby book are a lowercase alphabet with attitude. "A told b, and b told c, 'I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree'"--which probably seemed like a good idea until the other 23 members of the gang decided to follow suit. The palm tree standing straight and tall on the first page begins to groan and bend under its alphabetical burden. First the coconuts fall off, then ("Chicka chicka... BOOM! BOOM!") all the letters also end up in a big heap underneath.
