Week of Mar. 27-31

Dear Prek Parents,

We hope everyone had an awesome weekend.

Reminders:
- Every Tuesday Homework is send home. Homework should be back to school on Thursday. Please don’t forget to send the folder and notebook back
-Please make sure your child is ONLY bringing toys of topics required by the teacher. We have been receiving children with toys that do not belong to any of the studies we are having.

-This coming Friday, March 31st is Parent- Teacher Conference. The conferences will be on a need-basis only. You will be receiving a note in which it will specify if there is a conference needed or not. In case is needed, you will receive the hour of the appointment. Conferences will be held from 8:00am to 12:00m.

No School for students on Friday, March 31st.

Easter Celebration is just around the corner. We will celebrate Easter on Friday, April 7th at Valentina’s House. Her house is located at El Hatillo. We need your support for this day with 12 plastic eggs and Lps. 100.00 which will include the transportation to and from Valentina’s house to school, the candies for the plastic eggs, the Easter basket and a piñata. You can join us on this day. We will be leaving school at 8:15am and coming back to school at 11:15am.

This week we will continue learning about our abc. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound, letter formation, vocabulary of the letter, remember always emphasizing on the short vowel sounds. This week we will be studying about the letter Uu. The vocabulary words for this letter are: under, umbrella, up, upset, upside down, underwear, udder, uncle, umpire

Children assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Tuesday and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have Piper (Prek”A”) and Mia (Prek”B”).

We would like your support on once in a while review the ABC’s letter names and sound. Here are some songs we use in class every day.

Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:
Ten Apples Up on Top, by Dr. Seuss, This delightful book forms part of the second stage in HarperCollins’ major Dr. Seuss rebrand programme. With the relaunch of 10 more titles in August 2003, such all-time favourites as How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? and Dr. Seuss’ Sleep Book boast bright new covers that incorporate much needed guidance on reading levels: Blue Back Books are for parents to share with young children, Green Back Books are for budding readers to tackle on their own, and Yellow Back Books are for older, more fluent readers to enjoy. Ten Apples Up On Top belongs to the Green Back Book range.

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will work with numbers 0-14 on how to represent and idenify using tally marks, ten frames, number formation, and name of the number, one-to-one correspondence, and sequencing. We will also be working with Measurement. Children will be able to measure objects using measurement references.

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive

In Social Studies we will continue the unit about Ocean Animals. We are going to learning and discussing Ocean life and animals that live in the Ocean. The different between Ocean animals and no Ocean Animals. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: octopus, fish, seahorse, whale, seaturtle, shark, starfish, jellyfish, crab, dolphin, shrimp, shell. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound, letter formation, vocabulary of the letter, remember always emphasizing on the short vowel sounds. This week we will be studying about the letter Tt. The vocabulary words for this letter are: tiger, triangle, tape, tent, turtle, train, tub, truck, toys, top, ten, tie.

Children assigned should take at least five (5) items that they have at home that begin with this letter. Items should be at school on Tuesday and we will send them back on Friday. For this week we have Pilar (Prek”A”) and Korbin (Prek”B”).

Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:
The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr, Judith Kerr's reassuring and funny story with just a hint of anarchy has been delighting children since its first publication thirty-five years ago. This modern classic has gone on to sell over three million copies worldwide, making it one of the most popular picture books for children ever written.

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will work with numbers 0-13 on how to represent and identify using tally marks, ten frames, number formation, and name of the number, one-to-one correspondence, and sequencing. We will also be working with Graphing. Children will be able to represent an amount of objects on a graph.

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “I’m a Little Teapot”

In Social Studies we will continue the unit about Farm Animals. We are going to learning and discussing Farm life and animals that live in the farm. The different between farm animals and no Farm Animals. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: cow, horse, pig, duck, sheep, rooster, dog, cat, goat, rabbit, donkey, tractor, turkey. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

FUN RUN & WALK - The DPTO will be hosting its annual Fun Run & Walk at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Discovery School. Pledge forms will be sent home this week. Parents and students should fill them out, collect the money, and turn it in during the inscription on the day of the event. This is a fun and exciting activity for the whole family! Join us for a delicious pancake & fruit breakfast after the run/walk!

Week of Mar. 13-17

Dear Prek Parents,

I hope everyone had an awesome weekend. This week is going to be a busy one for our class.

Mark your calendars, next Thursday March 16th, we will be celebrating Father's Day and our annual Art Exhibition. Everyone will enjoy the Musical Review the Early Childhood students are preparing for you. After the show Dad's and Mom’s will share breakfast with their child in the classroom.


The outfit for Father’s Day Show is 70’s outfit. Hippie style.
Please do not buy anything use what you have at   home, and try to recreate a 80's look inspired on the    pictures below.

Week of March 6-10

Dear Prek Parents,
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

This week is evaluation week all the concepts we’ve learned this 3rd quarter. Which are letters M-R (name, identify, write, sound of the letter and at least 5 vocab words of each letter), numbers 0-12 (name, identify, write, sequence, make set), writing their names.

Thank you for your support on Dr. Seuss’ birthday celebration. Children had a great time.

This week we will also be working with Dr. Seuss’ activities and getting to know more of his books.

We have talked to the students that we have started the hot season in Honduras. Please provide your child with a water bottle every day. Have them wear light clothes; they can bring a hat to protect from the sun, put sunscreen on their face and arms.

In Honduras we celebrate Father's Day on March 19th. We would like to invite all of our DADDIES to save the date for Thursday, March 16th at 8:00 a.m. We are planning on having something nice prepared for you. We hope you can come and spend some time with your child at school.
Mommies you are also invited to join us this day, Thursday, March 16th, because we will be having an EARLY CHILDHOOD ART EXHIBIT. We will have an exhibit of some art projects your kids have done during the year.
